Glucose (GHB)

divider

Glucose is a simple sugar and a key energy source for the body's cells. It is a primary component of carbohydrates found in foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy products. Once ingested, glucose is absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to cells where it is utilized for energy through cellular respiration. Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, regulates blood glucose levels by facilitating glucose uptake into cells.

Abnormal glucose levels can lead to health issues. High blood glucose, or hyperglycemia, is associated with diabetes mellitus, a condition where the body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot use it effectively. Conversely, low blood glucose, or hypoglycemia, can result in symptoms like dizziness, confusion, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness. Managing glucose levels is crucial for maintaining overall health and preventing complications related to metabolic disorders.
