FSH

divider

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a key hormone produced by the pituitary gland, crucial for reproductive health in both men and women. In women, FSH stimulates the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles, which are necessary for ovulation and estrogen production. It plays a vital role in the menstrual cycle and fertility. In men, FSH supports spermatogenesis by acting on the Sertoli cells in the testes, which are essential for sperm production.

FSH levels fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle and can be measured to assess reproductive health or diagnose disorders. Elevated or low levels can indicate various conditions, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or primary ovarian insufficiency in women, and hypogonadism in men. Monitoring FSH levels helps guide treatment for infertility and other hormonal imbalances, providing insights into the functioning of the reproductive system.
